the8fest Small-Gauge Film Festival is a little festival for small films. We are a unique Toronto-based festival that screens films solely on celluloid: 8mm, Super 8, and 9.5mm. We also welcome installation, loops, performance/film, music/film, and ‘proto-cinema devices’ like zoetropes. Programming ranges from personal, handmade, experimental, animations, diaries, essays, collage, cut-ups, and more. Please help us create a new space for older mediums with timeless style!

the8fest seeks your 8mm, Super 8, 9.5mm films, and other small gauge film projects (such as loops and installations) for our 15th festival being held on February 25th to 27th, 2022. DIY filmmakers, experimental artists, established filmmakers, and everyone who has an interest in small gauge film should apply! the8fest encourages and will be explicitly prioritizing submissions from Black and Indigenous artists of colour. We would also like to encourage submissions from Queer, POC and Disabled artists as well as artists of Trans and Non-Binary experience.

the8fest is made possible through the generous support of:The Canada Council for the Arts and The Ontario Arts Council as well as our sponsors, our community partners, volunteers, filmmakers, and audience.
